Typically the raccoon species will mate from late January and mid-March. Two to five baby raccoons are typically born in each litter! Baby raccoons are born blind and deaf and usually dont start to hear or see until 18 to 26 days after birth. If you have a raccoon issue and suspect babies living in your attic feel free to contact County Animal Control to assist you!

Baby Raccoons

Momma raccoon wants to find a safe place to breed her young and get through the early stages of her kits’ lives safely and successfully. In many cases that safe place just happens to be in your home! Raccoons are well known for finding their way into residential homes to have their litter. Baby raccoons tend to be quite noisy (just as a human baby would). In many cases the mother will go out to retrieve meals and she makes no return due to fatal accidents or enemies higher up the food chain. When the mother raccoon is not around, the screaming and crying of a baby will typically increase. Now you have baby raccoons living in your attic that are not capable of retrieving food for themselves or even move on their own in some cases. If you experience noises coming from your attic that may sound like crying baby raccoons, it would be smart to jump on getting those babies out. In any case, babies left on their own or the mother and the babies taking over your attic, County Animal Control provides services in removal of raccoons and does a great job on removing the mother raccoon and the whole little together, and releasing them together so they are able to continue their lives elsewhere!

Raccoon Damage in Vent

Vent Damage from Raccoon

Raccoons are very strong and intelligent animals who can use this intelligence and strength to create lots of damage. If you are experiencing damage from raccoons call the number above to get your damage repaired and raccoon issue solved!

Raccoon Damage

The raccoon is not only a very intelligent animal but for an animal its size, it has extreme strength. The strength and intelligence these raccoons have give them the ability to create a great amount of damage. Using the expression “raccoons have thumbs” is a good way to express how their paws work. Raccoons being able to use their paws much like a human uses his/her hands makes it much easier for the raccoon to grab, pull, tear, and rip apart objects that they want to deconstruct. Due to these amazing abilities these raccoons have creates many situations in which raccoons are found living in peoples homes either in the attic or in the drywall. Once a raccoon has announced your home its home as well, it makes it a little difficult repairing these damages. You do not want to repair these damages unless you know for sure the raccoons are not inside any longer and are not going to make a return. If you wait for the animals to leave and try to repair the damages before their return, the raccoons will either reopen the opening or create a new opening in which more damage would be created. To be sure the raccoons will not be making a return visit you must bring them outside of their travel grounds into an area it is unaware of. This would bring them to unfamiliar territory and will not know the path to make a return to the property.

How it works:

In order to get rid of raccoons successfully one would need something to capture the animal. Live cage traps are a great way to safely trap a raccoon without harming the animal. After a raccoon is trapped you then can safely get rid of the raccoon by removing it from the premises and releasing it. When getting rid of raccoons that has been caught in a live cage trap be careful where you put your fingers. Do not try to pet a raccoon while it is caged. Raccoons are very quick and trying to pet a caged raccoon is a risk. Continue the process until all of the raccoons have been got rid of. If you do not feel comfortable physically grabbing the cage and removing the raccoon or need a hand in getting rid of raccoons call:

Raccoon Cage Trapping

This is a raccoon caught in a cage trap.

A raccoon exclusion can be done with sprays, repellents, or even predator urines. This exclusion is done by taking the repellent or predator urine and spraying it in the territory that the raccoon is currently in. Once the repellent or urine is caught by the raccoons nose  of the raccoon it is supposed to fear or discomfort it and steer the animal right on out of there. This exclusion strategy to get rid of raccoons has worked but is not always a for sure exclusion. To be absolutely positive that the raccoons have been excluded you would have to physically remove them. That being done with a sort of trap where you could catch the raccoon, and then remove it from the premises. If you need assistance in a raccoon exclusion feel free to call:

A raccoon trapper has 3 main duties, assess the issue, trap the raccoon, and safely remove and relocate the raccoon from the premises. Raccoon trapping may sound simple, but I assure you that not every raccoon trapping situation is the same. With the strength and intelligence that these animals have anything can happen, and that makes raccoon trapping interesting. A raccoon trapper must be prepared for the unexpected when trapping because you never really know what might happen. Assessing the issue will help the trapper map out any possibilities the catch can go. Knowing all the possibilities eliminates space for error and gives the trapper the chance to set up in many ways and be prepared for what the raccoon may bring to the table. After proper baiting and set up of the trap, the only thing to do now is wait for our raccoon to be trapped. After trapping the raccoon is successful always be sure to not let any persons near the trap. Getting too close to a raccoon can be very dangerous and may result in injury. Safety is key, keep a safe distance from the raccoon while removing it from the premises. Safely transport the raccoon off the property and to designated relocation area. Need a raccoon trapper? Raccoon Trapping

Raccoon Trapping

There are different approaches you can take when raccoon trapping. For instance cage trapping. This is a humane way of raccoon trapping. It allows you to catch a raccoon in a trap without harming the raccoon and safely removing the animal from the property and release else where. When using cage traps for raccoon, the bait you use should have two attributes to it, both visual and scent. This allows the raccoon to see the bait from a distance and want to inspect. When the raccoon comes close the scent will drive it the rest of the way. Another reason why this is good is that your doubling your chance of the raccoon finding this food. It may not see the food but will catch the scent of it or vise versa. You want to make sure the trap is secure and try to keep these traps on the ground. This will help prevent any damage the raccoon can do to objects around it while it is in the trap or even damage to the animal its self. If objects are around the trap, you may find those objects in the trap after catching the raccoon. The raccoon is very strong and they tend to pull near by objects inside the cage. Keeping the traps on the ground will also help prevent the raccoon from rolling it, the raccoon is not happy it is caught and will do what it can to get out. You do not want a trap falling from off the ground, it will hurt the raccoon and will also damage your trap or possibly hurt someone or property beneath which none of those are good scenario’s. Keep raccoon traps on the ground! To safely trap raccoon hiring a professional may be your best solution to get the job done right and lessen the worry on your hands.
