Baby Raccoons

Momma raccoon wants to find a safe place to breed her young and get through the early stages of her kits’ lives safely and successfully. In many cases that safe place just happens to be in your home! Raccoons are well known for finding their way into residential homes to have their litter. Baby raccoons tend to be quite noisy (just as a human baby would). In many cases the mother will go out to retrieve meals and she makes no return due to fatal accidents or enemies higher up the food chain. When the mother raccoon is not around, the screaming and crying of a baby will typically increase. Now you have baby raccoons living in your attic that are not capable of retrieving food for themselves or even move on their own in some cases. If you experience noises coming from your attic that may sound like crying baby raccoons, it would be smart to jump on getting those babies out. In any case, babies left on their own or the mother and the babies taking over your attic, County Animal Control provides services in removal of raccoons and does a great job on removing the mother raccoon and the whole little together, and releasing them together so they are able to continue their lives elsewhere!

Raccoon Damage in Vent

Vent Damage from Raccoon

Raccoons are very strong and intelligent animals who can use this intelligence and strength to create lots of damage. If you are experiencing damage from raccoons call the number above to get your damage repaired and raccoon issue solved!

Raccoon Damage

The raccoon is not only a very intelligent animal but for an animal its size, it has extreme strength. The strength and intelligence these raccoons have give them the ability to create a great amount of damage. Using the expression “raccoons have thumbs” is a good way to express how their paws work. Raccoons being able to use their paws much like a human uses his/her hands makes it much easier for the raccoon to grab, pull, tear, and rip apart objects that they want to deconstruct. Due to these amazing abilities these raccoons have creates many situations in which raccoons are found living in peoples homes either in the attic or in the drywall. Once a raccoon has announced your home its home as well, it makes it a little difficult repairing these damages. You do not want to repair these damages unless you know for sure the raccoons are not inside any longer and are not going to make a return. If you wait for the animals to leave and try to repair the damages before their return, the raccoons will either reopen the opening or create a new opening in which more damage would be created. To be sure the raccoons will not be making a return visit you must bring them outside of their travel grounds into an area it is unaware of. This would bring them to unfamiliar territory and will not know the path to make a return to the property.

Soffit damage from raccoon

If you have open soffit panels (much like the opening in the photo to the left) you may be at risk of having animals such as raccoons move into your home! Call County Animal Control for assistance in Raccoon Control!

During the cold season and the breeding season raccoons would prefer living in a home rather than in the wild. Obviously it is much warmer in an attic than it is out in the wild and when it comes to breeding their young, it is much safer as well. If you notice openings in your vents or roof, it may be the work of a raccoon creating its entryway to your attic. If you see these openings or hear noises at night it would be wise to get started on raccoon control. In order to take control over the situation you first need to remove the raccoons from the home. You can fix the vents and entries all you want but as long as the raccoons are still on the property, the raccoons will have control of the situation and keep making entryways. Capturing the animals and removing them from the property will give you control of the situation. After being sure you have removed all the raccoons, you need to repair the damage done by the raccoons immediately. This eliminates the chances of other raccoons or any other animal making a move in to the home. For assistance in raccoon control feel free to call:

How it works:

In order to get rid of raccoons successfully one would need something to capture the animal. Live cage traps are a great way to safely trap a raccoon without harming the animal. After a raccoon is trapped you then can safely get rid of the raccoon by removing it from the premises and releasing it. When getting rid of raccoons that has been caught in a live cage trap be careful where you put your fingers. Do not try to pet a raccoon while it is caged. Raccoons are very quick and trying to pet a caged raccoon is a risk. Continue the process until all of the raccoons have been got rid of. Raccoon Cage Trapping

This is a raccoon caught in a cage trap.

A raccoon exclusion can be done with sprays, repellents, or even predator urines. This exclusion is done by taking the repellent or predator urine and spraying it in the territory that the raccoon is currently in. Once the repellent or urine is caught by the raccoons nose  of the raccoon it is supposed to fear or discomfort it and steer the animal right on out of there. This exclusion strategy to get rid of raccoons has worked but is not always a for sure exclusion. To be absolutely positive that the raccoons have been excluded you would have to physically remove them. That being done with a sort of trap where you could catch the raccoon, and then remove it from the premises. If you need assistance in a raccoon exclusion feel free to call:
