Keeping the traps on the ground will also help prevent the raccoon from rolling it, the raccoon is not happy it is caught and will do what it can to get out. You do not want a trap falling from off the ground, it will hurt the raccoon and will also damage your trap or possibly hurt someone or property beneath which none of those are good scenario’s.
